My Passion for Pretty Things

If someone were to ask me what my true passion in life is, I would have to say—outside of my family—it would definitely, hands-down be interior design. Even as a teenager, I would frequently shop at Pier1, browse furniture stores, redecorate my room, and spend my money on funky lamps. I never once thought this was strange, but began to wonder if I was a little different when a college friend asked me why I had a painting of Monet framed on my dorm room wall. "You like art or something?" she asked as if I was from outer space. "Uh, yeah, and you don't?" I thought she was the crazy one!

I still don't know why I never went to design school. I guess because my other passion, writing, was an easier goal to obtain (and would possibly open up more opportunities as far as jobs were concerned). So that's what I did; got my degree in English from the University of Louisville and began my career in marketing. Writing, marketing, advertising all relate on some level to the creativity that goes into interior design.

Watching HGTV everyday doesn't make me a designer anymore than having a fancy camera makes someone a photographer. This I understand. But there's one thing I know for sure: interior design is always on my mind. I'm always wondering how I can change something in my home to make things look or function better. How can my home be completely different than everyone else's? For me it's a hobby. Hopefully my hobby will inspire you to make your home a bit more beautiful.

Stay tuned as I share some of my personal thoughts on design-related topics and before and after photos of my own home.

For now, check out my favorite design team, The Novogratz. If they don't inspire you, no one will.
